The story behind the event
Longtan is the most important tea-growing area in Taoyuan County, also the first place in Taiwan to grow the flowering Lupinus plants. It is home to Lupine flowers. At the end of each year, Lupine seeds are sown between tea plants by the local tea farmers’ association. Lupine flowers will be in full bloom between the following February and March, with their golden petals looking gorgeous in the bright sunlight. They are quite a feast for the eyes. These flowers, after withering away, will become good nutrients for the tea plantations. They sacrifice themselves for other plants, a characteristic that makes them look like a mother to the Hakka people. That’s why the Lupine flower is considered to be the Hakka people’s mother flower.

A group of youths returned to their hometown of Dabeikeng and chose handpicked local ingredients as their medium for touching people’ hearts through deserts with the taste of home. To bring the young industries of Dabeikeng to the attention of more people, so they can experience its local culture and beauty, a tea mountain style dessert flash sale site has been set aside this year to give local industries treater exposure!

The five local colors of Dabeikeng were adopted as the theme for the five days of performances. 25 groups of performers will each bring their own unique performance for each themed day.

Flowers between tea, and tea between flowers. Waves of music roll of the stage even as creative literary merchandise gather at Tea Mountain Market. The stalls selling sweets, tea, hot food and agricultural specialty products are all filled with merchandise from local industries around Longtan. You can spend an entertaining afternoon here all by yourself.

The 5 Lupinus art installations based on the theme of “Nurture” blend natural scenery with creative arts to express the spirit of motherhood embodied by Lupinus’ nurturing of tea trees. To introduce more members of the public to the Lupinus art installations and local sights, QR codes were placed at 7 locations including one sight each for Dabeikeng and Sanhe, as well as 5 art installations. An electronic stamp collection campaign encourages members of the public to visit the Lupinus fields, tea mountains and art installations!

This “Sanhe Monkey x Satoyama Raccoon Party” event hopes to introduce more people to the philosophy of satoyama and natural beauty of Sanhe through fun interactions. The event also seeks to bring more of Sanhe’s local elements to the public.
